The Plainville Democratic Town Council Slate

  • A well-respected public servant, Christopher has devoted almost 30 years to his volunteer work on the Council. He is currently Chairperson, a position he also held during several previous terms. His extensive knowledge in many areas, including finance and budget, truly informs discussion and decision-making.

    Christopher is an outstanding leader who listens to everyone, considers all information, and builds consensus. He has moved Plainville forward in the areas of infrastructure, public safety, town services, and more. He accomplishes this through his expertise and a leadership style characterized by civility and respect.

    Christopher’s priorities are to complete the Middle School renovation as planned, continue development of the White Oak property, and to examine options for a reservoir-based versus aquifer-based water supply to finally resolve hard water issues. He will also guide the planning of a new public works facility and consider how additional shared services may lower costs for the Town and Board of Education. Within the community, Christopher has been Treasurer and Director of the Plainville Girls Travel Basketball. He has also volunteered for the Wheeler Regional YMCA Fundraising Campaigns, United Way, Fire Company Balloon Festival, and served as Lions Club Treasurer. Christopher is a PHS and CCSU graduate. He and his wife Raegan have three children who have all attended Plainville schools.

  • Currently the Council’s Vice-Chairperson, Rosemary is known for thoroughly researching issues and making decisions based on both relevant information and resident input. She is the liaison to the Library Board of Trustees, Conservation Commission, Committee on Aging, and Housing Authority. Her community involvement includes United Plainville (UP) and serving as Vice-President for the Plainville Historical Society through which she strives to keep our local history alive.

    Rosemary has always been passionate about having high expectations for Plainville’s future and quality of life. She believes that with strategic planning and smart budgeting, we can continue to make our town the best it can be in terms of positive economic development, public safety, and services such as the library, recreation, and senior center. She also views the quality of our school system as a determining factor in making Plainville a desirable place to live.

    A lifelong resident and PHS graduate, Rosemary was in the first group of women admitted to Trinity College, from which she has a B.A. in History. She has a Master’s in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island and a 6th Year in Educational Leadership from the University of Hartford. A longtime educator in the Windsor Public Schools, she retired as the district’s Supervisor for Technology and School Libraries.

  • Quinn is honored to seek another term on the Council. She has been active in both town government and the community. As the former owner of a local business, Quinn is the President of the South Canal Street Industrial Park Association. In recognition of her accomplishments, Hartford Business Journal named her one of the Top 25 Women in Business.

    Quinn is the liaison to the Chamber of Commerce, Inland Wetlands Commission, and Economic Development Agency. She also serves on a subcommittee working on Fire Department planning. In addition, Quinn was on the 2025 Memorial Day Parade Committee and the 2023 Charter Revision Commission.

    Quinn has supported and will continue to address key priorities and responsible budgeting. She will advocate for recruiting business and providing incentives that can enhance responsible economic development and broaden our tax base. Long-range building and infrastructure planning continues to be another priority because Quinn knows that this ultimately raises property values, ensures safety, and avoids emergency spending. The importance of strong fire and police departments, quality schools, and other services are also a focus for Quinn.

    A native of Plainville, Quinn is a graduate of PHS. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from CCSU and a Master of Social Work from SCSU. Quinn is a certified personal trainer at a local gym.

  • A true model of community involvement, Benjamin is running for a second Council term.

    He is the liaison to the Capital Projects Building Committee, Police Department, and Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, of which he was previously a member. Benjamin is a former Little League softball coach, Past President of PHS Athletic Backers, and a longtime member of the Coalition for Positive Youth Development.  He has worked on several facility projects. Ben has also given back to the community by being on the 2025 Memorial Day Parade Committee, chairing Plainville’s 150th Celebration in 2019, and serving as a Constable.

    Benjamin has been an excellent addition to the Council. He is known for his work ethic, candor, willingness to listen, and ability to get things done. He is proud that we passed the Middle School renovation and added police officers. His continuing priorities are to strengthen communication and transparency, support public safety, oversee municipal projects, and pass fair budgets that provide quality services.

    Benjamin is the fifth generation of his family to live here. He and his wife Diane have been married for 29 years. Benjamin has been both a truck driver and a stay-at-home dad with children Audrey, Phoebe, Jessica, and Jason. Everyone in the family is a proud PHS graduate.

  • Dan Hurley is honored to have served three previous Council terms, including one a Chairperson, and is proud of the accomplishments made during those years. He is now running for a second term with the Democratic slate, whom he believes is committed to an open-minded, straightforward, and common-sense approach that gives our citizens a voice in decision-making.

    Plainville has been home for Dan since 1974. He owned a tractor-trailer and then worked at White Oak Construction for 25 years until retirement. While there, he was also a Teamster steward. In culmination of lifelong spiritual studies, Dan received a Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Interfaith Seminary of Arizona.

    Dan served as a Drill Instructor (Sgt.) in the U.S. Army Reserve. He is a life member of the American Legion as well as a member of Disabled American Vets and Frederick Franklin Lodge Masons. Dan also volunteered on our Memorial Day Parade Committee for over 40 years and chaired the group for many of those years.

    Dan’s priorities include safety, economic development, environmental stewardship, superior schools, senior services, library, parks, and recreation. He believes that through collaboration and transparency, the Council can maintain a budget that the public endorses as right for our town and its needs.

  • Lifelong resident Melissa Sweeney brings a professional background in the important fields of social work and mental health to our 2025 Board of Education slate. This is Melissa’s first time running for public office.

    Melissa has 16 years of experience working as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is currently the owner of a small business that provides mental health support in the Central Connecticut region.

    Melissa’s highest priority as a Board member will be the academic, emotional, and social well-being of all Plainville students. She will listen to all voices and be a strong advocate for students, educators, and families. She also believes that collaboration and partnerships with families and the community are key to student success.

    As the proud and dedicated parent of two children in Plainville schools, Melissa has been actively involved in many school events. She is in her seventh year as a Girl Scout Leader for two troops and, as the Fall Products Sales Manager, has led town wide fundraising efforts for all Plainville Girl Scouts.

  • Rob Michalik has been dedicated to community service throughout his life. He currently serves on the Plainville Zoning Board of Appeals and volunteers as a board member for two non-profit organizations – Mental Health Connecticut and Community Health Services.

    Rob has been a lector at Our Lady of Mercy Church for over two decades and was previously a member of the Lions and Rotary Clubs.

    A former member of the Town Council, Rob also has extensive government experience on the state and federal levels. He is currently the Director of Government Relations for the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority. Other prior experience includes managing a Congressional office and directing legislative affairs for the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.

    As someone who strongly believes that education is the pathway to improved opportunity and overall well-being, Rob hopes to leverage his wide-ranging background and experience to support all the students and teachers in our schools with the resources and policies they need to succeed.

    A lifelong resident, Rob lives in town with his wife Kathy.

  • Brittany Bouchard is running for her first term on the Board of Education. With a strong background in education, she brings a valuable perspective to the Board as the district works to meet classroom needs.

    Brittany currently teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) for Unified School District #1 within the Connecticut Department of Corrections. She was nominated for Teacher of the Year (2024–25) and serves as a mentor to new teachers through the TEAM program.

    Her decision to run is motivated by a passion to help Plainville schools prepare students for success in an ever-changing world. A true advocate for students, she is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where every child can thrive. Brittany will also listen to parents, community members, and fellow educators to build transparency and trust across the district.

    A Plainville native and PHS graduate, Brittany is deeply connected to the community she hopes to serve.

  • Anthony Wasley currently serves on the Board of Education. A lifelong educator, he has been a science teacher in West-

    Hartford since 2010, where he created a coral propagation and aquaponics “living lab” that has given hundreds of students hands-on experience with sustainability, conservation, and science in action. This reflects his deep commitment to student-centered learning.

    Prior to joining the Board, Anthony served on the Parks and Recreation Committee, where he gained valuable experience in planning, budgeting, and policy. He strongly supports data-driven decision-making and the transparent, responsible use of resources.

    Anthony believes that teachers are the heart of every school and that empowering them with trust, tools, and support ensures student success.

    He and his wife Emily have lived in Plainville for 15 years, raising two sons who attend Linden Street School. Anthony has also coached with Plainville Little League and Soccer Club, and his family has deep roots in the Plainville small business community. As a Board member, Anthony is committed to advocating for families and educators while ensuring that children of all backgrounds and abilities receive an education that reflects the values of Plainville.
